The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) is a critical assessment for students targeting prestigious private schools. While it mirrors the SSAT in purpose, its multi-dimensional reporting and flexible testing modes make it a preferred metric for many admissions offices.

  • Primary Level: For candidates applying to grades 2-4.
  • Lower Level: For candidates applying to grades 5-6.
  • Middle Level: For candidates applying to grades 7-8.
  • Upper Level: For candidates applying to lise (high school) grades 9-12.

Standard ISEE assessments (Lower, Middle, and Upper) comprise five key modules:

2. Quantitative Reasoning

Evaluates math through traditional problems and unique Quantitative Comparisons. No calculators are permitted.

3. Reading Comprehension

Measures comprehension speed and analytical depth across various academic and literary passages.

4. Mathematics Achievement

The longest section, focusing on mastery of the school curriculum, including Algebra, Geometry, and Data Analysis.

5. Essay (Non-Scored)

A 30-minute writing prompt that serves as a vital sample for admissions offices during the interview and selection process.

ISEE utilizes a "No Penalty for Guessing" system, encouraging students to answer every question to maximize their potential Stanine score.

  • Scoring Band: Scaled scores typically range from 760 to 940.
  • Stanine System: A 9-point scale used by elite schools to rank student performance relative to a 3-year global norm group.
