READ IMAT IN THE RIGHT CONTEXT
IMAT tests more than science knowledge. It also tests whether good decisions can be applied under time pressure.
IMAT is the central admission test used by selected English-taught medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine programmes in Italy. In the 2026/27 cycle, candidates answered 60 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes. An effective plan therefore combines subject knowledge, reading questions in English, response risk and time management.
Applicant category matters as much as the test score. EU candidates, non-EU candidates resident in Italy and non-EU candidates resident abroad may be considered through different quota and ranking frameworks. Citizenship and residence status should therefore be checked against the official rules before preferences are finalised.

2026 QUESTION DISTRIBUTION
Each area requires a different study behaviour.
The official paper combines five content areas in one test. At HND, we track question language, option elimination and section-level timing alongside subject review.
Logic and problem solving
Reason clearly, identify relationships and eliminate options systematically.
Biology
Apply syllabus knowledge across unfamiliar contexts.
Chemistry
Connect concepts, calculations and experimental information.
Physics and mathematics
Model, calculate and maintain accuracy under time pressure.
SCORING
Leaving a question blank is also part of test strategy.
The maximum score is 90. Placement depends not only on the raw score but also on applicant category, available places, preference order and ranking position. A single “guaranteed score” from a previous year is therefore not a sound basis for planning.
